S. Giovanna Carr, LMFTClinical Interventionist

S. Giovanna Carr, LMFT, is a Clinical Interventionist in the Division of Infectious Disease and Global Public Health, Department of Medicine, at University of California San Diego. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Communication from Regis University, her Master’s degree in Sociology from Humbodlt State University, and her Master’s degree in Psychology from Chapman University. Additionally, she is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the State of California.

Currently, Giovanna is a Clinical Interventionist for the iSTRIVE Research Lab, wherein she provides clinical training to all study staff and interventionists, provides crisis intervention, clinical assessment and counseling when needed, assists in the development of intervention curriculum for intervention, and facilitates an intervention phase of a clinical trial.

Giovanna is an adjunct professor who has been teaching Sociology, Criminal Justice, Psychology, and Research for over 18 years. With over 10 years of healthcare experience, Giovanna went back to school to focus on becoming a licensed therapist. Giovanna is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Giovanna is experienced working with clients who have co-morbidities, dual diagnoses, chronic health issues, and histories of trauma. She has a private practice where she continues to use a trauma informed, strength- based approach that is holistic, eclectic and guided by the individual needs of the individuals, couples and families she works with.

Giovanna is deeply committed to working with others to empower, educate, and encourage personal growth. Helping others gain the tools to help navigate this complicated world brings her joy.
