Karla Wagner, PhD conducts is an Associate Professor at the University of Nevada, Reno, School of Community Health Sciences. She received a master’s degree from Northern Arizona University and a PHD in Preventative Medicine from the University of Southern California. Dr. Wagner conducts mixed methods research that focuses on the prevention of negative health outcomes associated with injection drug use, especially HIV, viral hepatitis, and fatal overdose. Her current projects use qualitative, quantitative, and social network methods to investigate the social and environmental factors associated with HIV risk among female sex workers and their partners in Tijuana, Mexico. She also provides technical assistance and conducts evaluation research on the effectiveness of naloxone distribution to prevent fatal opioid overdoses.
