Christina J. Catabay, MPH is a research professional in the US Department of Defense. As part of her time with iSTRIVE, she was a Research Program Coordinator working directly with Dr. Kiyomi Tsuyuki in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Global Public Health, Department of Medicine at the University of California San Diego.
Prior to working at iSTRIVE, Christina received a Master’s degree in Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology from the University of California, Irvine and a Bachelor’s degree in Human Biology with a minor in Ethnic Studies from the University of California San Diego. Currently, she works with Dr. Servin and Dr. Tsuyuki on research projects focused on violence against women, sexual and reproductive health, substance abuse, and HIV risk.
Christina’s passion for public health stems from her HIV/AIDS-related undergraduate coursework and serving as a liaison between a local health clinic and her high school to coordinate World AIDS Day events. As a graduate student, Christina assisted with various public health research projects at the University of California, Irvine, such as examining the experiences of LGBT youth in rural South African schools. Previously, she worked as an Assistant Statistician in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, Department of Medicine at the University of California, Irvine and a Grant Writer at a nonprofit organization.
Christina maintains her commitment to promote health equity and reduce health disparities among vulnerable and marginalized populations.
