U-BLOOM

COMING SOON!

U-BLOOM is a case-control study that aims to examine how HIV status influences the occurrence and presentation of uterine fibroids among women in the United States. The study will compare women with and without HIV to assess differences in uterine fibroid prevalence, risk factors, and symptom severity by HIV serostatus. Eligible participants who wish to participate will complete a one-time, 45-minute guided survey via Zoom and receive a $50 e-gift card upon completion. Findings will inform potential integration of uterine fibroid screening within HIV care settings and contribute to understanding how HIV-related inflammation and immune alterations may affect fibroid development and symptom burden among women.

The specific aims of this study are:

  1. Describe the 12-month point prevalence of uterine fibroids, overall and by HIV serostatus, among women.
  2. Examine sociodemographic, reproductive health, and sexual health risk factors of uterine fibroids, overall and by HIV serostatus.
  3. Assess potential differences in the frequency and severity of symptoms of uterine fibroids, overall and by HIV serostatus, among women with a lifetime history of uterine fibroids.
